#1 Wow... Whites Only Basketball League in 12 Cities
A whites-only basketball league aims to launch in twelve cities this summer, according to a report in the Augusta Chronicle. The All-American Basketball Alliance would also ban players born outside the United States.
The league's commissioner, Don "Moose" Lewis, claims that he doesn't "hate anyone of color. But people of white, American-born citizens are in the minority now." Thus, he says, the All-American Basketball Alliance would be "a league for white players to play fundamental basketball, which they like."
White Men can't jump and they're tired of trying.
#2 An inside the Boston Democratic circle report say that the Scott Brown victory was not a referendum on Obama. It was a West Mass versus Boston thing as well as the fact that Coakley ran an awful campaign.
#3 Indiana State Sen. Errington files law to promote locally produced foods
MUNCIE -- Following the example of Illinois and other states, state Sen. Sue Errington, D-Muncie, is proposing legislation that could lead to goals for Indiana prisons, schools and universities to buy more locally grown food.
"Illinois actually has goals for buying locally," Errington said. "I think we need to take some smaller steps first."
Her Senate Bill 194 would establish a local and organic food and farm task force to create a plan to expand and support a local and organic food system, which is where Illinois started several years ago.
"It would be good for rural economic development," Errington said. "There is a lot of interest in more locally grown food and having more farmers markets and the like."
A study released by a task force in Illinois last year showed that of the $48 billion spent by Illinoisans on food each year, only a tiny fraction is grown in Illinois. Illinois believes it can bring in an estimated $30 billion a year to its economy through measures to encourage Illinois farmers to grow food for local consumption, coupled with a system to process and transport the food to Illinois markets.
When national politics has you down it's never bad to look locally.
#4 Tax Cannabis 2010. This year in California we have a legitimate chance to decriminalize marijuana with a state ballot initiative called Tax Cannabis. The pro side is a large constituency of non regular voters. Those who don't use cannabis should be able to be convinced to vote for a tax on someone else. Conservatives could appeal to individual freedom arguments as well as state savings on jailing offenders for a drug that is substantially safer than alcohol.
